A moat buys a company time as a competitive advantage - for example operating as a low cost competitor for crowded market place. In software companies, new features and innovation is the "moat" so to speak. But, this is troubling as the time bought from one moat is needed to build another moat. (Treadmill Effect).
Instead focusing on building a "utility" is critical in order to access the compounding effects of platforms and time.
